It seems that rains follow everywhere Australia wherever they go these days. Their Champions Trophy campaign was curtailed due to rain and now the Australians were devoid of any practice due to persistent rains in Kolkata. The First match at Chennai was also shortened due to rains so much so that their innings was shortened to 21 overs.

CAB President Sourav Ganguly, however, remained optimistic about the chances of the match to be held on Thursday. Kolkata finally saw the sun coming out after two days of overcast conditions. The covers, which was all over the ground from end to end, finally came out partially at the Eden Gardens. The stadium will host the 2nd match of the 5-match series.

Smith surprised to see the amount of grass on the wicket

Indian skipper Virat Kohli along with Head Coach Ravi Shastri and bowling coach Bharat Arun inspected the pitch which was covered for two days. Batting sensation from the last game, Hardik Pandya also joined in for the inspection.

There was grass on the surface as Aussie skipper Steve Smith said at the pre-match press conference. “(The grass on the wicket) is probably more than I’ve seen in India for a while,” claimed a startled Steve Smith during the pre-match conference. The Indian team played a game of volleyball with the foot after inspecting the pitch.

Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President and former India captain Sourav Ganguly spent some time near the wicket with local curator Sujan Mukherjee. “I am satisfied with the wicket. Even if it rains, there won’t be any problem,” Ganguly told reporters in sidelines after discussions with the curator. “It will be a sporting wicket. There will be something in it for everyone,” claimed a Cricket Association of Bengal official
