The first ball of the eighth edition of the Champions Trophy is less than 24 hours away. Teams have had much-needed practice ahead of the tournament and are looking to play the best possible combination in the tournament. Former cricketers turned experts have named Australia, England and India as the favourites to lift the title this year.

In an event held in London – Aaj Tak Salaam Cricket conclave – on Wednesday, former cricketers Shane Warne, Sourav Ganguly and Michael Clarke spoke about the teams to look out for in the Champions Trophy. Clarke predicted an India-Australia final on June 18 at the Kennington Oval in London to which, Ganguly disagreed.

Ganguly rates England higher than Australia

The former India captain, who led India to victory in the 2002 edition, was of the opinion that England is a far better team than Australia on current form. Shane Warne found this ridiculous and asked Ganguly to state the match winners of the English side. The Prince of Kolkata then took the names of Joe Root and Jos Buttler.

This prompted the former cricketers to indulge in some banter. Australia is scheduled to take on their Ashes rivals England on June 10 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Warne asked Ganguly to buy him a dinner and wear the Australian jersey if the men in yellow are triumphant on the day. Warne also conditioned that he would wear an England jersey in an event of the hosts winning this encounter. Both Ganguly and Warne agreed for it almost instantly.

England a great ODI side

England were the runners-up of the last edition in 2013 and has the team to go all the way this time around. They begin their campaign tomorrow when they take on Bangladesh at the Oval in London. Before taking on Australia, they will play against New Zealand on June 6 at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.

The Morgan-led side has had remarkable success in the ODI format over the last 18 months. They have a sound team which is capable of lifting their maiden ICC Champions Trophy.
