One day after the Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly, the veteran batter has now opened up about his close relationship with Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is known to be a strong critic of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

The former left-handed batter also praised the local minister and city Mayor Firhad Hakim stating him as an individual who can be approached by anyone at any time of the day. It is to be noted that Union Minister Shah’s visit to Ganguly’s home on May 6 (Friday) fueled speculation that the former cricketer would join politics soon.

Sourav Ganguly along with his wife Dona Ganguly and other family members were present during the dinner

The dinner organized by the BCCI president included his wife Dona Ganguly, the cricketer’s elder brother Snehasish Ganguly and other family members as well. Meanwhile, the Union Minister was joined by the BJP leaders, Swapan Dasgupta, the party’s state president Sukanta Majumdar and the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal assembly and a prominent figure in local politics, Suvendu Adhikari.

“Our honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a person very close to me. I had approached her to help up this institute,” Ganguly said at the inauguration program of a private hospital as quoted by The Telegraph.

The former southpaw added, “I am also very close to Firhad Hakim. He has been seeing me since I was in Class 1. He has been our family friend. All who approach him get help. I too have called him several times.”

Meanwhile, the BCCI is currently focusing on the ongoing 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). To note, more than 50% of the matches have been completed and the final match will be played on May 29 (Sunday) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. To note, the Qualifier one and the Eliminator will be played at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
