Team India faced a 60-run defeat in the hands of England in Southampton to concede a 3-1 series win. Virat Kohli-led Indian team will make it to the Kennigton Oval for the fifth Test, which will be a dead rubber but the visitors will continue to play with the same intent. Seamers did well in the fourth Test but spinners made the difference for both the sides.

The Indian ace spinner Ravi Ashwin failed to create the impact on the pitch where Moeen Ali did exceedingly well in both the innings of the Southampton Test. The English spinner went on to pick a total of nine wickets in the fourth Test helping England to win the series.

Dada opens up

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly wasn’t impressed with the tactics used by Ravi Ashwin. He felt that the Indian spinner looked impatient and bowled six different deliveries in an over. Ashwin failed to utilize the rough created by Ishant Sharma. He rarely landed the ball on the rough patch. Whereas Moeen Ali used it very well to pick wickets.

“Virat Kohli will have to talk to Ashwin about why he looks so impatient. He is bowling six different deliveries in an over. Ability-wise Moeen Ali is not better than Ashwin. Rather Ashwin is twice as good as Ali as a spinner,” Ganguly told India TV. “But Ali keeps his bowling simple. On the other hand, Ashwin keeps experimenting with the doosra, wrong’un and leg-spin rather than utilising the rough. Sometimes in Test cricket, you have to become boring to win matches.”

Team India will head to the Kennington Oval for the fifth Test starting from 7th of September. Virat Kohli is likely to bench Ravi Ashwin, who suffered a hip injury and might bring in Ravindra Jadeja. There are also talks about the inclusion of 18-year-old batsman Prithvi Shaw in the place of under-performing KL Rahul.
