South Africa recorded their 5th win in their last six Test matches at the St. George’s Park in Port Elizabeth with a 6-wicket win against the Aussies. Kagiso Rabada took three more wickets on the 4th day morning to finish with six wickets in the 2nd innings and extend his match tally to 11. Australia’s lower order extended the lead to 100 before they were bowled out for 239. The Saffers did lose four wickets before levelling the 4-match Test series.

All the stats and numbers that were created during the 4th day’s play of the Port Elizabeth Test:

4 – Number of ten-wicket match hauls for Kagiso Rabada. These are the joint most 10-wicket Test match hauls for any player before turning 23. Waqar Younis also bagged four ten-wicket Test match hauls before turning 23.


4 – Rabada’s four ten-wicket match hauls are the joint 2nd most for a South African bowler in Test cricket. Dale Steyn has five such hauls in his career so far while Makhaya Ntini took four ten-fers.

All the four ten-wicket hauls of Rabada have come since 2016. In this span, only three fast bowlers (once each) took ten wickets in a Test match.


4 – South Africa lost four wickets while chasing 101 in the 4th innings. These are the 2nd most number of wickets they lost in a chase below 120 in Test cricket. The Saffers lost five wickets while chasing 101 against New Zealand in the 2000 Bloemfontein Test.


9 – Hashim Amla is a part of nine Test wins of South Africa against Australia. No other South African has been a part of as many Test wins against Australia. Eddie Barlow, Peter Pollock and Graeme Pollock were part of eight Test wins over the Aussies.


11/150 – Rabada’s match figures of 11/150 are the 2nd best for a South African in a Test match against Australia. Hugh Tayfield took 13/165 against the Aussies in the 1952 Melbourne Test.


98 – The 98-run stand between Cameron Bancroft and David Warner is the 3rd highest opening partnership in the first innings from which a team lost a Test match in South Africa. Wasim Jaffer and Dinesh Karthik had a 153-run stand in the 2007 Cape Town Test while Mike Atherton and Mark Butcher shared 115 in the 2000 Cape Town Test.


135 – Kagiso Rabada’s 135 Test wickets are the 4th most for any player before turning 23. Only Waqar Younis (190), Harbhajan Singh (144) and Kapil Dev (142) took more wickets than Rabada before turning 23. Rabada’s nine Test five-fers are the also the most before 23 behind Waqar (19), Harbhajan (11) and Kapil (10).
