The third One-Day International of the triangular series at Centurion in 2001 was India’s third ODI victory against the Proteas in their homeland. After winning the toss, India got off to a steady start, but lost wickets in the middle overs.

Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh stitched together a partnership of 90 runs to resurrect the innings. However, after Dravid’s dismissal, the Men in Blue lost a flurry of wickets and were rolled over for 233 runs. Shaun Pollock was the pick of the Proteas’ bowlers with five wickets for 37 runs in his quota.

While batting, Pollock’s men made a meal of a rather comfortable chase and capsized to 106/7 at the halfway mark. However, a stand of 77 runs between Lance Klusener and Mark Boucher injected momentum  but couldn’t rescue their team from a 41-runs defeat.
