Proteas pacer Lungi Ngidi was the star when the play resumed after a rain-marred second day as he took 6 wickets for 71 runs, his second-best figures in Tests. The visitors lost wickets in clusters as KL Rahul couldn’t do much with Ajinkya Rahane yet again failing to reach a half-century. India’s lower order didn’t trouble the scorers much as they got bowled out for 327.

The home side faced difficulties against the Indian pace battery throughout the innings as they got bundled out for 197 runs handing India a lead of 130 runs. Only Temba Bavuma looked in touch as he completed his first Test fifty against India. For the tourists, Mohammed Shami was on song as he snapped a five-for and also reached the milestone of 200 Test wickets, making him the fifth Indian pacer to achieve the feat.

The 31-year-old pacer took his third five wicket-haul against the Proteas which is his most against any team in Tests. Japsrit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur too were amongst the wickets as they took two wickets each.

With India looking in complete control of the Test match with a lead of 146 runs, they would like to keep on scoring on the fourth day and set a massive target for South Africa. On the other hand, the hosts would again rely on their main pacers Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada to pick up wickets and try to avoid the big fourth innings target for them.
