The first T20I between South Africa and Pakistan at the Newlands in Cape Town turned out to be a closely-fought one. Both teams strained every muscle to get the better of each other. The visitors were the favourites going into the match as they are ICC’s number one ranked T20I team. Prior to this series, Pakistan had won 11 T20I series in a row under the captaincy of Sarfaraz Ahmed.
However, the hosts soared above expectations and won the game by six wickets. The second match at the New Wanderers Stadium is scheduled to be played tomorrow and the visiting team’s winning streak is in danger. After a successful outing in the Test and ODI series, the Proteas would be keen to wrap up the series tomorrow itself. David Miller would be leading them in Faf du Plessis’ absence.
The second match of the three-match ODI series between South Africa and Pakistan will be hosted by the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
The match starts at 6:00 PM local time (4:00 PM GMT) (9:30 PM IST). The game will be live on Sony SIX and Sony SIX HD in India. (Live streaming in Sony Liv).
Last five completed T20I matches:
South Africa: W, W, W, W, L.
Pakistan: L, W, W, W, W.
The pitch has been a batting paradise and obviously a bowlers’ graveyard. The average score at the Wanderers isn’t something to rejoice for the bowlers. 26 games have been played thus far at this ground and 12 were won by the team batting first. Being a good batting wicket, teams would want to chase.
Average first innings score: 209 (Last four T20s)
Record of chasing teams: Won – 1, Lost – 3
Janneman Malan, Gihahn Cloete (WK), Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller (C), Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo, Lutho Sipamla, Beuran Hendricks/Junior Dala, Tabraiz Shamsi.
Bench – Willem Mulder.

Janneman Malan replaced Quinton de Kock in the squad while Faf du Plessis has been rested for the remaining two games. Mohammad Hafeez was rested for the first game but is expected to play the last two matches.
Lutho Sipamla picked 16 wickets from ten Mzansi Super League matches at an average of 20.56 and an S/R of 13.8. He was the joint second highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:
Babar Azam, Reeza Hendricks and Shoaib Malik are the ideal choices as the captain. Rassie van der Dussen, Mohammad Hafeez and Chris Morris can be chosen as the vice-captain. Andile Phehlukwayo and Fakhar Zaman won’t be bad choices for the multipliers’ role as well.
Suggested Playing XI for Head to Head/Small Leagues:
Keeper – Gihahn Cloete
Batsmen – Shoaib Malik, Babar Azam (C), Hussain Talat, Reeza Hendricks (VC)
All-Rounders – Shadab Khan, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo
Bowlers – Usman Shinwari, Beuran Hendricks, Tabraiz Shamsi
Suggested Playing XI for Grand Leagues/Mega Leagues:
Keeper – Gihahn Cloete
Batsmen – Shoaib Malik, Babar Azam (VC), Fakhar Zaman, Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen (C)
All-Rounders – Mohammad Hafeez, Chris Morris
Bowlers – Hasan Ali, Tabraiz Shamsi, Lutho Sipamla
Babar Azam, Hendricks, Malik are the best pics from the batsman’s category. Van der Dussen and Talat are economical picks. Miller and Fakhar can be risky picks owing to their inconsistency.
Pakistan are expected to make a strong comeback and draw level in the series.
