South Africa’s dominance over Sri Lanka in the ODI series continued as the hosts cruised to a 6-wicket win in the 4th ODI. The speedster Anrich Nortje’s 3-wicket haul reduced the Sri Lankans to 92/7 after the Proteas elected to bowl first. Isuru Udana then struck a 57-ball 78 with seven fours and four sixes to help the visitors to finish on 189. Quinton de Kock scored his 4th fifty-plus of the ODI series as South Africa chased down the target in 32.5 overs for the loss of four wickets.

0 – Number of players with five consecutive ODI innings of 80 and more runs. Quinton de Kock’s four ODI innings before this game read 121, 94, 81 and 83. He ended up scoring only 51 runs in Port Elizabeth thus missing out on becoming the first player with five consecutive 80+ scores in ODI cricket.


3 – Quinton de Kock became only the 3rd player in ODI history with two streaks of five or more consecutive fifty-plus scores. Virat Kohli (in 2012 & 2013) and Kane Williamson (in 2014 & 2015) had two streaks of five or more consecutive fifty-plus scores in this format. De Kock recorded five consecutive fifty-plus scores in ODIs during 2017.


7 – Quinton de Kock scored at least one fifty in each of his previous seven International matches. He thus became only 3rd South African to achieve such a feat.

Aubrey Faulkner had fifty-plus scores in seven consecutive Tests between 1910 and 1912 while Faf du Plessis also had 50+ scores in seven consecutive matches this year until the 2nd ODI.


A record finishing by Udana:

78Isuru Udana’s 78 is the 4th highest individual score by a No.9 batsman in ODI cricket. Andre Russell scored an unbeaten 92 against India in 2011 while Daren Sammy made 84 against Australia in 2012. Thisara Perera scored an unbeaten 80 in the 2014 Dhaka ODI against Bangladesh. Ravi Rampaul made an unbeaten 86 against India in 2011 but while batting at No.10.


58 – The 58-run partnership between Isuru Udana and Kasun Rajitha is Sri Lanka’s highest stand for the 10th wicket in ODI cricket. The duo went past the record held by Russell Arnold and Sajeewa de Silva with a 51-run partnership against Zimbabwe in the 1999 Bulawayo ODI.

9008 – JP Duminy completed 9000 runs in International cricket while playing for South Africa. He is the 10th player to aggregate 9000 International runs for South Africa. Faf du Plessis (9984) is 16 runs away from completing 10000 In Internationals for South Africa.


4050 – Quinton de Kock completed 4000 runs in International cricket on South African soil. He is the 11th player to scored 4000 International runs in South Africa.

He averages exactly 50 across all formats in South Africa which is only behind Jacques Kallis (51.09) among the players with 2000 International runs in South Africa.
