South Africa will face Zimbabwe in a three-match ODI series at home with a squad that does not feature many regular members who have faced injuries. JP Duminy will be leading a near second-string side that will be witnessing Dale Steyn’s return to the ODI format. Every game is crucial for the Proteas given the World Cup coming up next year. This series will help them to filter out who they can take into consideration. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will be looking to gain some experience by playing a strong opposition that too in an away tour.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of the 3-match ODI series between South Africa and Zimbabwe:

1 – JP Duminy will become the 15th captain of South Africa in the ODI format. He has led the team in nine T20Is thus far but never in the ODI/Test formats.


4-7 – South Africa’s win-loss record in the ODI format in 2018. They lost the six-match ODI series against India at home 1-5 and defeated Sri Lanka 3-2 in the five-match away series.


7 – Zimbabwe are currently on a seven-match losing streak in the ODI format and 11 defeats in a row across all formats. Their last win came during the CWC Qualifiers against Ireland which was followed by defeats to Windies and UAE. Later, they lost in all four matches in the home T20I tri-series and also got whitewashed by Pakistan in five ODIs.


27 – South Africa have won each of their last 27 ODI matches against Zimbabwe. Saffers’ last defeat against their neighbouring country came back in 2000 during the Durban ODI where Zimbabwe chased down the target off the last ball.


102.41 – Christiaan Jonker’s batting strike-rate in the List A format. He scored 2841 runs in this format at an average of 39.45 in 93 matches.


198 – Number of matches Hamilton Masakadza has featured in the ODI cricket. The Zimbabwe captain needs two more appearances to become the 4th Zimbabwe player with 200 ODI appearances.


2010 – South Africa will host Zimbabwe in an ODI series for the first time since 2010. The three-match series in 2010 was also the first bilateral ODI series between these two teams.


2015Dean Elgar will be playing an ODI game for the first time since 2015. He featured in only six ODI matches between 2012 and 2015. He has scored 4991 runs in his 144-match List A career.


4994 – Runs JP Duminy has scored in his ODI career thus far. The South Africa’s stand-in skipper needs six more runs to become the ninth South African to score 5000 ODI runs.
