The world especially India have done exceedingly well in the ongoing fight against COVID-19. But then again, one has seen several instances where people just don’t really care about the precautions they need to take in these testing times, and such an instance was witnessed this week when India’s latest bowling sensation T Natarajan returned home after the successful tour of Australia.
The Indian contingent landed in the country on Thursday, one day after the conclusion of the Test series in Australia. India concluded their sojourn in Australia with a monumental series-clinching win in the fourth Test at the Gabba. The visitors won the four-match series by a margin of 2-1 after losing the first Test.
India chased down 328 in the fourth Test at the Gabba to condemn Australia to their first loss at the venue since 1988. The tour was also a very special one as well as a career-defining one for Natarajan. The left-arm pacer was initially picked in the squad as a net bowler after his fine display in last year’s IPL. However, he went on to make his ODI, T20I as well as Test debut on the tour after unfortunate injuries to other players.
And one can say that Natarajan grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He took two wickets on his ODI debut before picking up six wickets in three T20Is, helping India clinch the T20I series. The Tamil Nadu star then went on to make his debut in Tests in the fourth game and picked three wickets.
T Natarajan’s welcome leaves fans concerned
T Natarajan was given a hero’s welcome when he landed in his village after his heroics in Australia. Hundreds of people lined the streets in Chinnappampatti village to get a glimpse of the star. Natarajan was also looking delighted with the reception as he boarded a chariot and moved towards his home amid loud cheers.
In no time, the video of Natarajan’s incredible welcome went viral on social media. But while most of the fans celebrated the incident, there were few who expressed their concerns over the same. The reason behind the concern was the clear lack of social-distancing. Most of the people were not even wearing face masks. As far as Natarajan is concerned, he was wearing gloves and a mask. And few fans were quick to express their concerns over the same.
Here are some of those reactions:
One pathetic thing all noticed. Only he is wearing mask, this doesn't look like we are in middle of a pandemic.
I can even forgive these people, in Chennai no one is wearing mask that's so sad. https://t.co/xU7l5aiLm0— Anonymous (@AnonymousBB40) January 21, 2021
