Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin has recently come out in support of tainted Indian pacer S Sreesanth. Azharuddin, who himself was a victim of being named in a spot fixing scandal, noted that Sreesanth has lost four years of his cricket career already. Azhar had later challenged the ban imposed on him and was subsequently cleared off all charges.

However, Mohammad Azharuddin could not make a comeback to the international cricket. Sreesanth, though, has a good chance of a second coming with the age factor being in his favor. But, his return is in a hold state at the moment. The BCCI is yet to clear up the case. The High Court has ordered the BCCI to lift the ban imposed on Sreesanth. As per the quotes in Hindustan Times, Azharuddin feels the board will have to follow the court orders.

On Sreesanth – the bowler

Commenting on Sreesanth, the former captain called him one of the finest fast bowling prospects team India had. However, it was poor management that could not exploit the best out of him. Meanwhile, Sreesanth himself is targeting an international comeback in South Africa tour next year.

“I think if the court order has come then they have to follow it. He has lost four years but Sreesanth will have to bring his fitness up to the required standards. He will have to put in good performances. According to me, Sreesanth was one of the finest fast bowlers but I think he was not handled properly,” quoted Mohammad Azharuddin.

“If he was handled better, he would have turned out to be a good fast bowler. If you see very few bowlers could manage to land the ball on the seam as he did, so he was very good. The BCCI will have to take a positive decision (on Sreesanth) if the court has given an order,” he added further.
