Sri Lanka to use software used by Barcelona to manage injury-prone cricketers

Fitness is paramount in order for teams to dominate in their respective sports. Football is a strenuous game and demands tremendous levels of fitness from the players. Barcelona is a reputed football team at the La Liga in Spain. They have had several renowned names like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar and many more footballers who have epitomized fitness as a crucial component to their success.
Their standards of fitness have recently caught the eye of Sri Lankan cricket. As per reports in NDTV, the Islanders have recently decided to adopt an advanced software used by the Spanish football team in order to manage the injury-prone cricketers. The board has spent $75,000 on the software and have adapted it to suit the cricketers.
A beneficial product
Recently, Ashley de Silva, the Sri Lankan cricket chief, spoke to the media regarding the viability and usefulness of the technology. “This system will benefit the national team and allow evidence-based decisions to be made. It’s not cheap, but it is a good investment because it gives us instant information.” De Silva mentioned.
The chief also highlighted the significance of the technology, keeping an eye on the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup next year in England and Wales. “We are investing a lot of resources and technology to develop the game with an eye on the World Cup,” he added. De Silva also mentioned that the Lankan cricketers will be wearing GPS devices in order to track fitness performances.
Sri Lanka is currently playing a triangular series featuring India and Bangladesh. They started the series on a handsome note, comprehensively beating India in the opening game. However, they were stunned by Bangladesh in their next contest. The World Cup is a year away and Sri Lanka have their task cut out ahead of them in order to taste success in the tournament.
