Pakistan are scheduled to host Sri Lanka for three ODIs and as many T20Is from September 27 to October 9. Even as the One Dayers will be played at the National Stadium in Karachi, the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host the 20-overs fixtures. The schedule of the games was swapped after a phone discussion between PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani and Shammi Silva, the SLC President.

As per the original programme, Pakistan was set to host the Lankans for a couple of World Championship Tests in October before Lanka returns for three ODIs and three T20Is in December. The Tests will now take place in December. Back in 2009, the bus attack on the Sri Lankan team sent shockwaves in the cricketing world. A number of Lankan players got injured in the incident.

Positive feedback from security delegations

Cricket in Pakistan went into the doldrums, it was only in late 2017 when Sri Lanka played a solitary T20I in the war-stricken nation. A number of their players backed out from the game due to security concerns. Recently, the SLC got a ‘very positive feedback’ from a security delegation that visited Karachi and Lahore. As far as the upcoming fixtures are concerned, the PCB chairman was satisfied.

“The PCB is pleased with the outcome of its discussions with Sri Lanka Cricket, which has supported Pakistan in its efforts and endeavours for the complete revival of international cricket. The tour for limited-overs matches will also provide Sri Lanka with an even better understanding of the ground situation before discussing schedule of the Tests,” Mani was quoted as saying.

“The upcoming matches will end the long await of the Pakistan cricket fans and supporters to watch modern day stars from both sides live in action. This is something that will contribute immensely to our revamped domestic cricket structure. We are very grateful to Sri Lanka Cricket President Mr Shammi Silva, his board and players for responding positively to our request to play matches in Pakistan,” he added.
