Australia continued their ODI form into the first T20I as Glenn Maxwell guided his side to break a few records with the bat. Maxwell, opening for the first time in a T20I, scored his career best of 145* and helped his side post a huge total of 263/3 in the 20 overs. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the match.

1 – Glenn Maxwell became the first player to score a century in T20Is in his maiden innings as an opener. Damien Martyn scored 96.

1 – For the first time, Australia batted first in this tour.

3 – Number of T20I centuries scored at Pallekele, most at any venue.

3 – Australian innings is the 3rd instance of a team innings in T20I having 50+ stands for first 3 wickets. India did vs Sri Lanka in 2009 and vs West Indies in 2016.

4 – Starc and Boland picking up 3 wickets each is the 4th instance of Australian opening bowlers 3-wicket hauls in same T20I innings. Previous 3 came in 2010.

5 – Number of Sri Lankan bowlers conceded 50 or more runs with the ball in Australian innings, the most in a single T20I innings.

12 – Number of T20Is Sri Lanka lost in 2016, joint most by any team in a calendar year. Pakistan lost 12 out of 18 T20Is in 2010 while Sri Lanka lost 12 out of the 15 they played in this year.

17 – Number of Australian overs aggregated more than 10. First over was the lowest one for Australia, which produced just 3 runs.

18 – Number of overs in which Australia had scored at least one boundary in this game, joint 2nd most in a T20I.

85 – Australia’s winning margin of 85 runs in the highest by any team against Sri Lanka in T20Is. Previous highest was 81 runs, also against Australia in 2010.

145* – Glenn Maxwell’s 145* is the 2nd highest individual score in T20Is. Aaron Finch’s 156 vs England in 2013 is the highest.

153 – Innings taken by Glenn Maxwell to score his maiden T20I century, 3rd most by a player. Virat Kohli took 181 while Andre Russell took 180 innings.

263/3 – Australia’s total in this game, the highest total in T20Is. They broke the Sri Lankan record of 260/6 vs Kenya in 2007.

263/3 – Australia’s total in this game is now the joint highest total in T20s. They equaled RCB’s record of 263/3 vs PWI in 2013.
