Bangladesh have received a major blow ahead of the second Test against Sri Lanka. Wicket-keeper batsman Liton Das has been ruled out of the fixture after having injured himself during the practice sessions. Liton was a key member of the squad as he was drafted in as a specialist wicketkeeper for the series.
The agenda behind roping in him in the squad was to give their best batsman Mushfiqur Rahim a relief from the wicket keeping workload. However, with Liton Das being injured, it is most likely that the skipper Mushfiqur Rahim will have to get back to his old duties behind the stumps.
The 2nd and the final Test of the series will be played at P Sara International Stadium at Colombo. The match starts on March 15 and is of historic significance too. The Test match will be the 100th Test for Bangladesh ever since their inclusion as a Test playing nation back in the year 2000.
Talking about the injury that the wicket-keeper batsman faced, Das was struck in his left rib cage during a batting net session on the ev of the Test match. The medical reports suggested that he has endured a small fracture that was severe enough to keep him out of the second Test.
The Bangladesh team have a stiff ask in the second Test after having lost the previous one by a heavy margin. They are trailing 0-1 down in the 2 match series. Their recent Test form has not been great either as they have lost their away Tests in New Zealand and India prior to the Sri Lanka tour. Their last Test win came against England during the home series in late 2016.
Here is the Bangladesh squad for the 2nd Test:
Mushfiqur Rahim (C), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarker, Mominul Hoque, Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shubhashis Roy, Imrul Kayes, Rubel Hossain, Taijul Islam, Shabbir Rahaman, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat.
