Sri Lanka continued to take thrashings at the hands of India as the home side lost the game by 9 wickets after they got bowled out for only 216 runs. India invited the Lankans to bat first; at one stage they were placed well at 139/1 with the top 3 scoring fluent runs. But the introduction of spinners triggered a collapse and Sri Lanka lost their last nine wickets for just 77 runs. India chased the target quite easily with Shikhar Dhawan smashing a quickfire hundred and Virat Kohli supporting him with an unbeaten 82.

3 – Number of international centuries Shikhar Dhawan has scored on this tour; the joint-most tons across all format for a visiting player on a single tour in Sri Lanka.
5 – Dhawan is only the 5th player to score a century in his maiden ODI innings in Sri Lanka. Zimbabwe’s Solomon Mire was the last of the previous four players.
6 – Consecutive fifty-plus scores for Dhawan against Sri Lanka in ODIs; he is the first player to score fifty-plus scores in 6 consecutive ODI innings against Sri Lanka and the first Indian to do so against any team.
6 – This is the 6th Man of the Match award for Shikhar Dhawan in ODI cricket and his first since the 2015 World Cup against Ireland at Hamilton where he scored 100.
7 – Rohit Sharma’s last seven innings in ODIs in Sri Lanka: 4, 4, 4, 0, 0, 5, 5. He is only the 2nd player after Sanath Jayasuriya to bag single digit scores in 7 consecutive ODI innings on Sri Lankan soil.
11 – This was Shikhar Dhawan’s 11th century in ODI cricket. Only three players have taken fewer innings than Dhawan (86) to score their 11th ODI century.
16 – Sri Lanka’s last six batsmen aggregated just 16 runs in this game. These are the fewest runs by the last six Sri Lankan batsmen in an ODI innings against India. Sri Lanka’s last six aggregated 18 runs in 2013 at Port of Spain.
28.5 – Number of overs India needed to chase down the 217-run target; the 4th fewest for any team in ODIs while chasing a target in excess of 200. West Indies needed only 20.3 overs to beat Canada in 2003 CWC.
71 – Shikhar Dhawan’s 71-ball century is the 2nd fastest century by an Indian against Sri Lanka in ODI cricket. Virender Sehwag scored a century in just 66 balls at Rajkot in 2009.
132* – Dhawan’s unbeaten 132 is the highest individual score for any player at Dambulla. He went past Tamim Iqbal’s 127 against Sri Lanka earlier this year. It is also the 3rd highest individual score for an Indian in ODIs in Sri Lanka
197* – Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli’s 197-run stand is the highest for the 2nd wicket in ODIs in Sri Lanka. The pair overhauled the previous highest of 188 by MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir which they scored in 2009 against Sri Lanka at Colombo (RPS).
