Sri Lanka continued to take thrashings at the hands of India as the home side lost the game by 9 wickets after they got bowled out for only 216 runs. India invited the Lankans to bat first; at one stage they were placed well at 139/1 with the top 3 scoring fluent runs. But the introduction of spinners triggered a collapse and Sri Lanka lost their last nine wickets for just 77 runs. India chased the target quite easily with Shikhar Dhawan smashing a quickfire hundred and Virat Kohli supporting him with an unbeaten 82.

Here we look at all the stats and records created during the game.

3 – Number of international centuries Shikhar Dhawan has scored on this tour; the joint-most tons across all format for a visiting player on a single tour in Sri Lanka.

5 – Dhawan is only the 5th player to score a century in his maiden ODI innings in Sri Lanka. Zimbabwe’s Solomon Mire was the last of the previous four players.

6 – Consecutive fifty-plus scores for Dhawan against Sri Lanka in ODIs; he is the first player to score fifty-plus scores in 6 consecutive ODI innings against Sri Lanka and the first Indian to do so against any team.

6 – This is the 6th Man of the Match award for Shikhar Dhawan in ODI cricket and his first since the 2015 World Cup against Ireland at Hamilton where he scored 100.

7Rohit Sharma’s last seven innings in ODIs in Sri Lanka: 4, 4, 4, 0, 0, 5, 5. He is only the 2nd player after Sanath Jayasuriya to bag single digit scores in 7 consecutive ODI innings on Sri Lankan soil.

28.5 – Number of overs India needed to chase down the 217-run target; the 4th fewest for any team in ODIs while chasing a target in excess of 200. West Indies needed only 20.3 overs to beat Canada in 2003 CWC.
