After a thumping defeat against the hosts Sri Lanka, India locked horns with the Lions in the 50 over format today. Virat Kohli and his men were the clear favorites going into the match as Dambulla prepared itself for an entertaining clash. Batting first in the match Sri Lanka got off to a brilliant start but could not end their innings on a good note. From 139/1, the Lankan batting order was ripped apart like a pod of peas by the Indian bowlers. The Upul Tharanga led side were restricted to an easily chasable total of 216 runs.
The main story:
As India came on to chase the target, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma opened the innings for the team. The duo was involved in a mix-up during a Lasith Malinga over that gave a dose of laughter to skipper Virat Kohli who was following the proceedings from the dressing room.
On the first delivery of the 5th over, the successful Champions Trophy pair found themselves in massive confusion while trying to steal a run. Sharma played the delivery straight past the bowler, but the Indian batsmen hesitated to make a decision about going for the run. It was a hilarious moment to see up there from the dressing room and Virat Kohli had a good time watching it.
However, Dhawan and Rohit successfully completed the run but while it gave a scare to the fans, skipper Virat Kohli looked absolutely relaxed. Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the last delivery of the over and it was a run-out. The batsman had reached the crease comfortably but lost his bat before which allowed the ball to dislodge the bells before he could ground himself. Rohit Sharma is having a tough time against Sri Lanka as the batsman has failed to enter the double digits in his last 5 innings against the nation.
