Team India completed the ODI series whitewash with a convincing 6-wicket win in the 5th ODI at the Colombo (RPS) to extend their streak to eight matches on the tour with a one-off T20I still to be played. Sri Lanka put on their highest total of the series – 238; which could have been higher if not for a collapse towards the end that was triggered by Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 5-wicket haul. India chased down the target in 46.3 overs after early hiccups as their skipper Virat Kohli hit a record 30th hundred.

Here we look at all the stats and records created during the game.

1 – India became the first team to whitewash Sri Lanka in an ODI series in Sri Lanka. They also became the first team to whitewash a home team in two different formats. (Min: three-match series)

3 – This is the 3rd time India have completed a whitewash in 5-match ODI series under Virat Kohli. He is the first captain to with three whitewashes in an ODI series comprising of five or more matches. (Leading the team in all the matches of the series)

4 – Number of ODI centuries for Virat Kohli against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. Only AB de Villiers (five against India in India) and Sachin Tendulkar (four against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka) have four or more centuries in ODIs against the home team.

5 – This series is the 5th instance where Virat Kohli has aggregated 300 and more in a bilateral ODI series. He is the first to do so in five different series’. Rahul Dravid, Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma (including this series) have done it four times each.

5 – This is the 5th time Virat Kohli has scored centuries in consecutive ODI innings. Only AB de Villiers (7) has scored consecutive ODI hundreds more times than Kohli. Saeed Anwar and Kumar Sangakkara have also scored centuries in consecutive ODI innings on five different occasions.

5 – Number of players who have the double of 500+ ODI runs and 25+ fielding dismissals at a venue outside home. MS Dhoni achieved this feat at the RPS in Colombo where he effected 25 dismissals and scored 568 runs to join Mohammad Azharuddin, Sanath Jayasuriya, Moin Khan and Romesh Kaluwitharana.

8 – Number of centuries in ODIs for Kohli against Sri Lanka; the joint 2nd most for any player against an opposition. Sachin Tendulkar has scored nine centuries against Australia and eight against Sri Lanka.

8 – India’s eight wins on this tour so far are the joint most for them on a single tour. They won eight matches on their tour of Europe in 2007.

15Jasprit Bumrah’s 15 wickets are the most for any pacer in a five or fewer match bilateral ODI series. These are also the most in a bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka.

30 – Kohli’s century in the game is his 30th in ODI cricket equaling Ricky Ponting’s 30 ODI tons. Only Sachin Tendulkar (49) now has more ODI centuries than Kohli.

100MS Dhoni became the first wicketkeeper to effect 100 stumpings in ODI cricket. He went past Kumar Sangakkara’s 99 stumpings in ODIs.

219 – Innings Virat Kohli needed to complete 10,000 List A runs. He is the quickest among the 100 players who reached this milestone.

330 – Virat Kohli’s 330 runs in this series are the 3rd most for any visiting player in a bilateral ODI series in Sri Lanka. Prior to this series, only Joe Root (367 in 2014) scored 300 runs in an ODI series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. Kohli and Rohit Sharma (302) scored over 300 runs in this series.

2005 – Last time before Bhuvneshwar Kumar in this series, an Indian scored a fifty and picked 5-wicket haul in the same series was Sachin Tendulkar in 2005 against Pakistan. Overall, he is the 5th Indian to achieve this double in a bilateral series.

4518 – Virat Kohli’s runs tally International cricket as captain; the 4th most for any India. He went past Sachin Tendulkar’s 4508-run tally as captain.
