Sri Lanka clinched a memorable series victory against Australia after dramatically winning the fourth ODI. The Australian team failed in their pursuit of Sri Lanka’s total of 258 by just four runs. Both sides will square up against each other for the final time in coloured clothing at the R Premadasa Stadium on Friday, 24th June.
The fifth ODI is a dead rubber as Sri Lanka have already clinched the series, but the home team will be hoping to entertain the crowd in Colombo. Although Dasun Shanaka’s team has bagged the series, the skipper will like to address the inconsistency from his batters in the final ODI.
Australia, on the other hand, were favourites to win the ODI series after they triumphed over the hosts in the T20I series earlier. But the visitors have been marred with injuries to key players and have failed to capitalize at the crucial stages of the matches. The vistors would like to put a better batting display in the final ODI and will look for momentum before heading into the Test series.
Pitch Conditions
The surface at R Premadasa Stadium has proved to be a tricky proposition for most of the batters in the series. The pitch has assisted the slower bowlers, and run-scoring hasn’t been easy at all. The team winning the toss might like to bowl first, as there are chances of dew settling in later in the innings.
Playing Combinations for SL vs AUS
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka will likely play the same team that completed a historic win in the fourth ODI and will look to continue the winning momentum heading into the first Test. Nevertheless, Wanindu Hasaranga might be rested, given his injury woes in the series.
Playing XI – Niroshan Dickwella (wk), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka (c), Chamika Karunaratne, Jeffrey Vandersay, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage
Australia
Australia’s injury woes just get deeper and deeper as they have lost star batter Travis Head to a hamstring injury. The talented batter will play no part in the fifth ODI and is also a doubt for the opening Test. Josh Inglis is likely to feature in the final ODI in place of the sidelined Head.
Playing XI – David Warner, Aaron Finch (c), Mitchell Marsh, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey (wk), Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Pat Cummins, Matthew Kuhnemann, Josh Hazlewood
