Sri Lanka continued their poor run as England took a 1-0 lead defeating the hosts by 31 runs (DLS method) in yet another rain-affected game hosted by Dambulla. Eoin Morgan’s 91-ball 92 and Joe Root’s 83-ball 71 played a major role in England’s total of 278/9.

Lasith Malinga’s 5-wicket haul was the key in restricting the No.1 ranked ODI team to a lower total. The home team was four down for 31 and further 74/5 in 16 overs in the chase. However, Thisara Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva added 66 for the 6th wicket in just 13 overs before rain brought an end to the game.
