Sri Lanka have finally registered a victory in the ODI series against India. They chased the required target of 227 runs after losing seven wickets with 48 balls to spare. At one stage, Sri Lanka were 144/1 but lost the next six wickets in a gap of 76 runs. Akila Dananjaya, Praveen Jayawickrama and Avishka Fernando played a key role in helping their team win. Both sides will now play a three-match T20I series starting 25th July.

Let’s look at all the key records and milestones created in the third ODI between Sri Lanka and India:

10 – Sri Lanka broke their losing streak of 10 matches against India at home in ODIs with this win. Before today, the last time India lost to Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka was in 2012.

5 – India won five consecutive ODIs against Sri Lanka before this match. They earlier lost to Sri Lanka in Champions Trophy 2017.

2 – In the 12 ODIs Sri Lanka have played this year, this was just their second win. The other win came against Bangladesh.

1980 – India handed ODI debuts to five players in this match which included Sanju Samson, Rahul Chahar, Krishnappa Gowtham, Chetan Sakariya, and Nitish Rana. This is the joint-most debutants used by India since their inaugural ODI. The only other occasion where five players made their debut for India in an ODI was against Australia in 1980.

6 – Sanju Samson’s long wait of making ODI debut got over in this game. He made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in 2015. His wait of 6 Years 4 days is the longest for any Indian player after making his T20I debut.

7 – India used a total of 7 debutants in this series which is the most for the team since its first-ever ODI series.

1 – Hardik Pandya got out by LBW in this ODI, which was the first such occasion of him getting out in this mode in the fifty-over format.

6 – Indian debutants picked a total of six wickets in this game, which is the joint-most for the team in an ODI. There were other two occasions in 1974 and 1980 where the debutants took six wickets.

7 – Today was the seventh score of over 50 for Avishka Fernando since 2019 which is the most for a Sri Lankan player in ODIs.

2017 – India were bundled out for 225 runs in the first innings. This is the lowest ODI total for India against Sri Lanka since 2017. They earlier got dismissed for 112 runs in Dharmsala ODI in 2017.

3 – Three Indian players Prithvi Shaw, Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav got out in their 40s in this match. This is the joint-most for India with two other occasions of similar dismissals in 1991 and 2014.

3 – Prithvi Shaw fell in the 40s yet again in ODIs. In his last four innings in the format, he has been dismissed in the 40s thrice.

6 – Rahul Chahar became the sixth Indian spinner to pick a three-wicket haul on his ODI debut.
