India and Sri Lanka are currently fighting it out in the third and final ODI of the series in Colombo. The visitors have already won the series and for the same reason, they made a lot of changes to the side handing debuts to as many as five players. Sanju Samson is also one of those players who replaced wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan in the line-up.

Samson was unlucky not to play in the first two ODIs due to an injury to his knee. However, he recovered on time before the third game and was straightaway included in the playing XI. He also got to bat early in the innings with the Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan getting out early and the Kerala batsman looked good for his 46 in his debut innings.

The 26-year-old is known to play sumptuous shots while in the middle and in the 10th over of the innings, he displayed his power-hitting as well. Off the fourth ball of the over, Akila Dananjaya tossed the ball up and Sanju Samson was not afraid to dance down the track.

He reached the pitch of the ball and smashed it right behind the bowler for a flat six. It was so disdainfully and effortlessly hit that the commentators were in his awe, not for the first time in his career. Unfortunately, Samson couldn’t reach his half-century and was dismissed on 46 off Praveen Jayawickrama.

Five debutants for India in the third ODI

Both the sides made a plethora of changes in the third ODI. India handed debut caps to Sanju Samson, Krishnappa Gowtham, Chetan Sakariya, Rahul Chahar and Nitish Rana while Navdeep Saini also made it to the line-up. This is only the second time that the Men in Blue have fielded five debutants in an ODI after their inaugural game in the format.

Sri Lanka also made three changes to their playing XI for this game going in with Ramesh Mendis, Praveen Jayawickrama and Akila Dananjaya. Having opted to bat first, India will be hoping to post a huge total on the board.
