The last time Sri Lanka won a bilateral series against India in any format was in 2008.

Sri Lanka have scripted history in Colombo as they won their first-ever bilateral T20I series win against India. The hosts won the second and third T20I of the series after losing the first game. In the third game, India could manage a total of only 81/8 batting first. In response, the Lankan team won the match by 7 wickets with 33 balls to spare. Wanindu Hasaranga was the biggest match-winner for the team picking up 4 wickets for only 9 runs.

Let’s look at all the important records and milestones created during the third T20I between Sri Lanka and India.

 1 – This was the first time Sri Lanka won a bilateral T20I series against India. Before today, India had won three out of four series while one series was drawn.

2008 – The last time Sri Lanka won a bilateral series against India in any format was in 2008. They won the three-match Test series by a margin of 2-1 at home at that time.

11 – After 11 consecutive bilateral series wins across formats, India finally faced a series defeat to Sri Lanka.

7 – India used a total of 7 debutants in this series, which was joint-most for them in a bilateral T20I series. They also used 7 debutants against Zimbabwe in 2016.

33 – A total of 33 players were used by both teams in this series, which is the most for a bilateral T20I series of three matches.

19 – India used 19 players in the series, the most by them in a bilateral T20I series.

5 – Sri Lanka won a T20I series after losing 5 consecutive T20I bilateral series. They earlier defeated Pakistan by 3-0 in  2019.

6 – India’s winning streak of six consecutive bilateral series came to end after this match.

1 – Shikhar Dhawan became the first Indian captain to be dismissed for a golden duck in a T20I.

2014 – Shikhar Dhawan got out for a duck after a gap of 61 innings, the second-most for an Indian batsman after MS Dhoni (84). The only other time Dhawan was dismissed without scoring was against West Indies in 2014.

39 – India could score only 39 runs in the first 10 overs of their innings, the lowest-ever for the team in T20Is.

29 – The top 5 batsmen of the Indian line-up scored only 29 runs. This is the second-lowest aggregate for the team in the 20-over format. The lowest aggregate is 26 runs against Australia in 2008.

2 – In the last 12 series deciders in T20Is, this was only the second time India faced a defeat. They earlier lost to New Zealand in 2019.

14 – Dushmantha Chameera has now taken 14 wickets against India in T20Is, the most by a pace bowler.

3 – India recorded their third-lowest total (81/8) in T20Is.

2 – India’s score of 81/8 is the second-lowest 20-over score total among full-member nations.

1 – Wanindu Hasaranga registered the best bowling figures (4/9) against India in a T20I.

2 – Rahul Chahar registered second-best T20I bowling figures (3/15) by an Indian spinner in Sri Lanka.
