West Indies set to tour Sri Lanka for the first time post their 2015-16 tour as they clash off in a 3-match ODI series and a 2-match T20I series across two weeks. The tour commences with the 1st ODI on Saturday at the SSC ground in Colombo.

West Indies are fresh of a 3-0 ODI series win over the Irish team at home. They also defeated Afghanistan 3-0 during a 3-match ODI series in November. Prior to the 2019-20 season, the Caribbean team spent more than five years without an ODI series victory to their credit.

All the key stats and numbers that matter ahead of the 3-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and West Indies:

0 – West Indies has not won an ODI series against Sri Lanka on the Sri Lankan soil. The first-ever ODI series between these two teams in 1993 was shared 1-1 while the 3-match series in 2011 and 2015 were won by 2-0 and 3-0 margins respectively by the home team.


2-8 – West Indies managed to defeat Sri Lanka only twice in their last ten ODI meetings – by 62 runs in the 2016 Zimbabwe Tri-series and by 6 wickets in the 2013 WI Tri-series. West Indies has beaten Sri Lanka only once in their last 10 ODIs against them in Sri Lanka.


7 – West Indies lost each of their five ODI matches on Sri Lankan soil and have failed to win any of their last seven ODI games in this country. Their last ODI win in Sri Lanka came way back in 2005 against the hosts by 33 runs.

It is also their only win in last 10 ODIs on Sri Lankan soil which they played post the 2002 Champions Trophy. Overall, West Indies won only five of their 20 ODI matches in Sri Lanka and lost in 13 of them. Their win-loss ratio of 0.384 on Sri Lankan soil in ODI cricket is their lowest in any format in a country.


998 – Shai Hope has scored 998 runs across 14 ODI innings he has batted in Asia. Across the 14 ODIs in Asia, he has an average of 124.75 as he struck five hundreds and three fifties.

As an opener, Shai Hope aggregated 748 runs in 9 ODIs in Asia at an average of 187 having scoring four hundreds and two fifties. His lowest score in these nine ODIs as an opener in Asia is 42.


1973 – Kusal Mendis needs 27 more runs to completed 2000 runs in ODI cricket. Mendis was joint 2nd fastest to 1000 ODI runs for Sri Lanka in 28 innings during 2017 home season. However, he failed to score 1000 more runs since then despite playing 43 innings.


2839 – Runs Darren Bravo has scored in his ODI career thus far. When Bravo scores 161 more runs, he will become only the 2nd player (Shai Hope) to complete 3000 ODI among the West Indies players who made their debut in the 21st century.


12879 – Runs Angelo Mathews aggregated in his International career till date. He needs 121 more runs to become the 7th player with an aggregate of 13000 International runs for Sri Lanka.
