After thrashing Sri Lanka in the opening match, India will enter the second T20I with the aim of sealing the three-match series. India’s women’s team has not won a T20I series in more than a year as they lost their previous fixtures against Australia, England, and South Africa. With many new and talented faces coming into the side, the team took a big leap of faith by starting off the series with a win.

Indian opener Smriti Mandhana failed to impress in the previous game, but her opening partner Shafali Verma played a decent, yet impressive, knock. Her innings included a couple of note-worthy shots as she hinted that she was in the game to win it. Top-order batter Sabbhineni Meghana walked off for a golden duck but skipper Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the innings a little.

Jemimah Rodrigues was the star of the show, as she took all the pressure upon herself to lead the team’s batting attack from the front and take the scoreboard to a higher end. Having been out of the international setup, the 21-year-old displayed sheer composure and batted for more than 10 overs to play an unbeaten knock. All-rounder Deepti Sharma had been out of form for quite some time, but she left everyone stunned with her power-hitting prowess in the final over. As a result, the visitors posted 138/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

As for the bowlers, Radha Yadav was the pick of the lot. She bowled a mighty impressive spell and finished her quota registering 2/22 in four overs. Spinners had a good outing as even Deepti Sharma was able to add a wicket to her kitty. Even though only five wickets were taken, Indian bowlers and fielders did a great job of restricting the hosts from chasing the low total.

Inoka Ranaweera and Oshadi Ranasinghe enjoyed their time with the ball in the Sri Lankan camp as the duo shared five wickets between themselves, having picked three and two respectively. Though the wickets were impressive, they were also slammed for some big runs in the first innings. Kavisha Dilhari amazed everyone with the bat, scoring 47 runs off 49 balls and remaining unbeaten, but she conceded 31 runs in three overs as the game slipped from Sri Lanka’s hand.

Pitch and conditions

The Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla hosted the first T20I match and it landed in India’s favour. It is a bowler-friendly pitch as was seen in the first game, thus spinners will continue to take advantage of the surface and the batters will look to put up a strong total so as to defend it easily in the second innings. The captain winning the toss would look to bat first and post around 150 runs.

Playing Combinations for SL vs IND

Sri Lanka

While the hosts looked to bounce back from the loss against Pakistan, they suffered yet another defeat against India in the first game. The Chamari Athapaththu-led side may continue with the same combination since the players have read the game well, and, on the other hand, the bowlers will try not to give away many runs.

Predicted Playing XI: Chamari Athapaththu (c), Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Madavi, Kavisha Dilhari, Nilakshi de Silva, Anushka Sanjeewani (wk), Inoka Ranaweera, Ama Kanchana, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Sugandika Kumari, Udeshika Prabodhani

India

The Harmanpreet Kaur-led India will look to carry their winning form into the next game, but this time around the top-order batters will have to take more responsibility. Having batters till No. 8, India should not face a problem with recovery in case of a collapse. Radha Yadav, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, and Deepti Sharma would look to continue taking advantage of the outfield.

Predicted Playing XI: Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Sabbhineni Meghana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Richa Ghosh (wk), Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Renuka Singh, Radha Yadav, Rajeshwari Gayakwad
