India- The World No.1 ranked Test side- were humbled by a ruthless Kane Williamson-led outfit by 10 wickets at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. The Men in Blue struggled to counter the relentlessness of the New Zealand pace attack and matters were accentuated with Virat Kohli’s lean patch.

The Indian captain could manage a total of 21 runs in Wellington, extending his underwhelming returns on the ongoing tour. Kohli’s scores across the nine Internationals that he has played on this tour read- 19, 2, 9, 15, 51, 11, 38, 11, 45 – That’s 201 runs at an average of 22.33 with a solitary half-century.

With Kohli going through a rough patch, all his critics have found their voice including a Sri Lankan Twitter user named Daniel Alexander. Alexander’s hate for Kohli and India, in particular, is well documented. He often comes out with filtered stats to show India and Kohli in a bad light. And, so with Virat going through an extended rough patch, Alexander has been in overdrive on social media.

Daniel took to Twitter where he quoted the numbers of Kohli in the ongoing tour and went on to say that only the trio of Steve Smith, Babar Azam & Kane Williamson are all-format and all-conditions batsmen while Kohli is ‘over-rated’.

Alex Tudor comes to Virat Kohli’s defense

Daniel Alexander’s tweet did not go down well with former England fast bowler Alex Tudor, who came to Kohli’s rescue when he said, “Overrated, are you just looking for people to hit up your timeline one bad tour & people coming for the great man.”

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli isn’t fretting too much on his form. According to the Indian captain, he is in a good space, asserting that he is batting well despite the lack of runs.

“I am absolutely fine. I am batting really well. I feel that sometimes scores don’t reflect the way you are batting and that’s what can happen when you don’t execute well what you want to,” Kohli said in the post-match conference.

He added “Look when you play so much cricket and you play for so long, obviously you will have 3-4 innings that don’t go your way. If you try and make too much out of it, it’ll keep piling on.”
