Harmanpreet Kaur is a household name after what she did to the Aussies yesterday. In the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, Kaur demolished the Australian bowlers. Her magnificent innings of 171 runs from just 115 balls sealed India’s place in the final of the biggest event in women’s cricket.

Kaur, who is a super-fan of former Indian destructive opener Virender Sehwag, formed a 137-run fourth wicket partnership with Deepti Sharma. It was all-Kaur in the partnership as Deepti scored only 25 runs. But looking at the context of the game, Sharma’s contribution was very handy. Kaur was constantly talking with her so as to release the pressure.

But she was bewildered when there was a miscommunication between the two. It could have resulted in Sharma’s wicket but fortunately, she made home safe. Kaur, however, was fuming with rage. Later, she went to her partner and told her something. After the historic win, she has revealed what she said to her partner who put the last nail in Australia’s coffin by dismissing Alex Blackwood.

“I just told her (Deepti) to rotate the strike, you don’t have to take the pressure. I was hitting the ball well and I told her to give me the strike and I will take the responsibility and she did a great job,” said the 28-year old after the match. “Mithali (Raj) and Deepti (Sharma) scored really well and Veda (Krishnamurthy) scored really well,” she added complementing her batting companions.

See the ball, hit it hard

The Punjab-based cricketer’s plan was similar to her idol Virender Sehwag‘s. “I didn’t get a chance to bat in the whole tournament. Today when I got the chance I just wanted to utilise this opportunity because today was the day where I wanted to prove myself and thanks to God, whatever I was thinking, (worked). Today’s plan was just to watch the ball, hit it hard and this is what I was doing. Some areas they were bowling well but I just wanted to hit and rotate the strike,” revealed the star of the moment.
