India kick started the T20I series against Australia with a big win off 37 runs in the 1st T20I at Adelaide Oval. The match was marked to be played on Australia Day which coincides with India’s Republic Day. After winning the toss, hosts invited India to bat first. Rohit Sharma continued his good form smashing a quick 31 which was followed by a Virat Kohli’s master class innings. Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 90 and formed huge stand of 134 runs for 3rd wicket with Suresh Raina, who scored a breezy 41.

Chasing 189 to win, Australia got off to a flyer with Aaron Finch and David Warner firing from start. Jasprit Bumrah, who was impressive on his ODI debut continued his performance in his T20I debut as well by breaking the opening stand. Spinners rattled through middle order followed by a couple of wicket for the other debutant Hardik Pandya, who conceded 19 runs in his very first over. Bumrah and Nehra ensured Australia gave no surprises as they picked wickets in the final overs, bowling out Australia for 151 runs. 1000 – Suresh Raina completed 1000 runs in T20I format. He is only the 23rd player and 2nd Indian after Virat Kohli to score 1000 runs in T20I format.

3/23 – Jasprit Bumrah bowling figures are the 4th best bowling figures by an Indian on T20I debut. Among pacers, only Bhuvneshwar Kumar with figures of 3/9 has better figures than Bumrah on T20I debut for India.

12.33 – Hardik Pandya’s economy rate of 12.33 is the 3rd worst for an Indian on T20I debut.

19 – Hardik Pandya’s 19 runs first over was the most expensive first over for a player from Test nation on his T20I debut. West Indies’ Sheldon Cottrell conceded 17 runs in his 1st over on his T20I debut.

50 – Shane Watson played his 50th T20I today. He is only the 2nd Australia to play 50 T20Is. David Warner played his 54th T20I today.

134 – Partnership runs between Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina for 3rd wicket in the game. This is the 2nd highest partnership against Australia for any wicket in T20Is. Highest is 135 by Moeen Ali and Eoin Morgan at Cardiff in 2015. This partnership is also the India’s 3rd highest for any wicket in T20Is.
