If there is one reason to watch this extremely one-sides Test series going on between India and Sri Lanka, then that is the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli. Kohli batting on the field signifies shattering of numerous records, and Tuesday (December 5) was not an exception.

While he scored 50 odd runs today, he broke the record of former legendary Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid. Not only that, he equaled the record of two other former legends, Sir Garfield Sobers and Brain Charles Lara.

What was the record this time?

It was of scoring 600+ runs in a Test series. In this on-going series, Kohli has scored 608 runs in just 5 innings. This was his 3rd Test series where he has scored more than 600 runs. Hence, he is the only Indian to score 600+ runs in 3 Test series, surpassing the records of Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid, who struck more than 600 runs in a Test series twice. As of now, Kohli is sharing the space with Lara and Sobers, who have also scord 600+ runs thrice in Test cricket.

Can he get past ‘The Don’?

Knowing that he still have many years before calling an end to career, it goes without saying that he can easily get past the two Windians’ record. But will he be able to match the record, or probably get past the record of the man who is synonymous with cricket, Sir Donald Bradman? Well, looks tough, but given the Midas touch that Kohli possesses, it is certainly not impossible.

There were 6 Test series where Bradman scored over 600 runs. Kohli is only halfway there, but he is still 29 years of age. If his performance graph doesn’t take a dip after the temporary hibernation which he opted for, we can very well expect many more records of many legends to be shattered by Kohli.
