Legendary former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has taken the middle path and refused to compare the two successful batsmen- Australia’s Steve Smith and India’s Virat Kohli. The cricket fans took sides as both the modern greats look to be in great touch, adding value to their team in their respective games. India are playing Sri Lanka at the moment while Australia are contesting for the Ashes against England.

Gavaskar said that he would have both the players in his team. He also added that he will have Smith at the third spot and Kohli at fourth position. Smith has recently scored an unbeaten 141* against England in Brisbane while Kohli has piled up two back-to-back double tons against Dinesh Chandimal’s Lankan outfit.

Gavaskar opts for both

“I would have both of them in my team. Steve Smith would bat at three, Virat will bat at four,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

“It’s the way they go from 50 to 60 and then from 70 to 80. If you look at [Lokesh] Rahul, when he is batting on 70s and 80s, he just gets a little ahead of himself. He is playing deliveries he shouldn’t be playing, he is reaching out. You never see Steve Smith or Virat Kohli doing that.” Gavaskar added.

The former opener said that both can play all the shots in the book and are extremely good at running between the wickets.”They eventually get the bowler to play in their arc. Then they bring all their shots into play. Both of them are super runners between the wickets. You can’t bowl maidens to them. It’s their strength, they keep rotating their strike and at the same time make the bowlers bowl to them.”

Earlier, Australian great said that Smith looks certain to break his Australian record of 41 Test tons while Kevin Pietersen said Kohli is the best in this generation.
