Sikkim continues to struggle in their debut tournament in the Indian domestic cricket as they have succumbed to their sixth straight loss in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The new entrants have suffered big defeats in the tournament thus far and created quite a few embarrassing records. On Sunday, Sikkim dumped to a 292-run defeat against Bihar; the biggest margin in Indian List A cricket. They were bowled out for just 46 in the response to Bihar’s total of 338 runs.

On Tuesday, Sikkim suffered another huge defeat this time against Team Puducherry. Electing to bat first, they made only 89 runs despite batting 43.2 overs. Puducherry chased down the target in only 15.2 overs for the loss of one wicket. The chasing side looked like finishing the game before Lunch break as they made 23 runs in the first two overs of the short chase. Skipper D Rohit scored 38 while Narayanan remained unbeaten on 35. Binod Gupta dismissed Rohit when six runs were left in the chase to avoid a 10-wicket defeat.

During the first innings, Sikkim were restricted by off-spinner Fabid Ahmed. The 23-year-old from Kerala joined the new team Puducherry for this season. Fabid claimed a five-wicket haul to run through the Sikkim batting but the most impressive part was his economy. He gave away only eight runs in his 9.2 overs in this game. Thus, he recorded the most economical bowling figures in a game in the Indian List A cricket.

The record was held by Bihar’s Avinash Kumar who gave away only eight runs in his nine overs at 0.89. Overall, Fabid’s effort stands at no.3 in the most economical bowling in a List A game by an Indian. Left-arm spinners Bishan Singh Bedi and Sunil Joshi had a better economy in an ODI game.

Bedi gave away six runs his 12 overs during the 1975 World Cup game against East Africa while Joshi had conceded six runs in his ten overs against South Africa in an ODI in 1999. Nayan Doshi once conceded only one run in a Sunday League game in 1977 but bowled out eight overs.
