Pakistan are currently presently playing a five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. The Men in Green thumped the hosts in the first three matches to take an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the series. It also meant that the last two matches were mere dead rubbers. Hamilton Masakadza’s men have been a recipient of some severe bashing on the pitch.

In today’s match, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq commenced proceedings and never allowed the opposition bowling to settle. The duo put on an opening stand of 304 runs from 42 overs. The Zimbabweans tried their hearts out to pin the openers, however, their tactics were neutralised by the belligerent openers.

Records galore in Bulawayo

En route the stand, the left-handers also broke a couple of records. When the partnership reached 252 runs, it became the highest opening stand in their ODI cricket, surpassing Imran Farhat and Mohammad Hafeez’s partnership of 228 runs at the Harare Sports Club back in September 2011. When the duo passed 265 runs, they also compiled the highest stand for Pakistan cricket for any wicket in ODIs.

Previously, the record of 263 runs was held by the legendary Inzamam-ul-Haq and Aamer Sohail back in April 1994 against New Zealand in Sharjah. The stand between Imam and Fakhar eventually came to a close when Imam went for a sweep only to hole out to Tarisai Musakanda at deep mid-wicket. He scored 113 runs from 122 balls with eight boundaries. Fakhar went on to score his maiden double-century in ODI cricket.
