The crowds at the Feroze Shah Kotla were stunned into silence despite seeing their home side Delhi Daredevils nose ahead in the match against the Rising Pune Supergiant. It was the match 52 of IPL 10 when former RPS skipper MS Dhoni was run out at a crucial juncture of the game. The crowd-favorite star disappointed the fans at the Kotla. The commentators were shocked to see Dhoni getting run out.
He is believed to be one of the fastest runners between the wickets. Hence, it came as a surprise to see him get out in that fashion. It was a superlative throw from Mohammed Shami that knocked off the stumps at the non-striker end where a Dhoni dive failed to match the efforts of the throw. However, this was not the first time that the former skipper has been run out in the history of the IPL.
In the history of the tournament, Dhoni has been run out on 6 occasions till date. The first instance when he was run out was in the third edition of the tournament. While leading the Chennai Superkings, he was run out on 19 in the match against Rajasthan Royals at the Motera Stadium, Ahmedabad.
In the 2012 and the 2013 edition of the tournament, he was dismissed in this fashion on two occasions each. The most recent instance of him getting run out, prior to the one against the Delhi Daredevils, was against the Kings XI Punjab in the 2013 edition of the tournament at Chennai.
Needless to say, the rarity of him being run out justifies how good a runner he is. Also, the run out against the Delhi Daredevils was his first such dismissal in the Rising Pune Supergiant outfit. In all, he has been dismissed in this fashion on 5 occasions whilst playing for the Chennai Superkings.
