Stats: James Anderson completes 100 wickets in Test cricket against India

James Anderson has always troubled the Indian batsmen in the longer format and it continued when they were up against the pacer on a green track at Lord’s last week. The 36-year-old claimed nine wickets in the game and completed milestones on his way through. Anderson accomplished 350 wickets on England soil and also became the first man to claim 100 Test wickets at the Home of Cricket, Lord’s.

At one of his other happy hunting grounds, Trent Bridge in Nottingham, Anderson did take a while to open his wickets tally. His first wicket turned out to be the all-rounder Hardik Pandya on the eventual last ball of the first day’s play. With that wicket, Anderson completed 100 wickets in Test cricket against India. In this process, he became only the 2nd player after Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan to bag 100 Test wickets against India.

Among Indian players, Murali Vijay has got out 2nd most times to Anderson as he has been dismissed on seven occasions including twice for a duck at Lord’s where he bagged a pair.

Anderson also has 104 wickets against Australia but that at an average of 34.55. He is now the first England player to take 100+ Test wickets against two different nations. Anderson, in fact, is the first England player to take 100+ Test wickets against any country other than Australia. Seven players from the country have taken over 100 wickets in this format against their arch-rivals Australia.

Jimmy is overall the 7th player with 100+ wickets in the Test cricket against more than one opponent. The England pacer could well end his career add South Africa to the list of opponents he has 100+ wickets against. He has taken 84 wickets against the Proteas in 24 Tests thus far. Only Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan claimed 100 Test wickets against three different countries thus far.
