Ever since the introduction of T20 leagues, the six-hitting prowess has been taken to another level. The sight of an MS Dhoni smashing a yorker with his traditional helicopter shot over midwicket. Bowlers are left with no place to hide. The batsmen have become more attacking as they look forward to dominating the bowlers from the very first ball.
While players like Chris Gayle or MS Dhoni rely on brute force and power, others like Virat Kohli are more reliant on timing. Players like Rohit Sharma or AB De Villiers have made six hitting absolutely effortless. Gone are the days when players look to preserve their wicket. These days, players don’t mind taking risks or hitting the ball in the air.
Whether it’s the Indian Premier League or the Caribbean Premier League, when it comes to six-hitting spree, Chris Gayle’s name comes at the top. The ‘Universe Boss’ as he’s referred to, was the first batsman to hit 100 sixes in the IPL as well as the CPL. If that’s not enough, Gayle was also the first cricketer to smash 100 sixes in T20 internationals too.
Recently, ‘The Universe Boss’ also crossed the 100 sixes mark in the Bangladesh Premier League and became the maiden player to do so. However, when it comes to Big Bash League, we finally have someone else holding that record.
Chris Lynn became the first ever batsman to hit 100 sixes in the BBL. Lynn’s power earned him the ‘Most Valuable Player’ award in the sixth season of the Big Bash League. The fierce striker is on top with 100 sixes to his name in 51 innings, what makes it special is the fact that Lynn has hit 103 fours and 100 sixes.
