The IPL 2018 Retention held on January 4 was expected to create waves and the excitement is not going to die down soon for one franchise in particular. Chennai Super Kings, who are making a comeback after 2 years of being banned, have stepped back in style. Ahead of the retentions, there were predictions that MS Dhoni, aka Thala and Suresh Raina, aka Chinnathala will be the sureshot retentions of the franchise.

As expected, the owners and think-tank opted for their two main men along with the third retention of Ravindra Jadeja. If the news wasn’t enough, the CSK Twitter handle has done a fairly good job at building up the excitement and keeping the action-starved fans connected to the activities of the franchise.

The Twitter account posted a video of MSD sealing the deal as he can be seen signing on contract papers. He was asked, “Back home?” by his wife Sakshi, to which a subtle as ever Dhoni replied, “Back home.” And as it was likely to happen, the franchise loyalists continued to share and retweet the post.

Watch it here:

While many may argue that Dhoni’s retention is purely an emotional one, his presence in the side is as natural as it can get because this side is where he feels most at home as seen by his numbers. MS Dhoni’s journey in the yellows has been 8 years long and consists of 2987 runs in that process. He has an average of 41.89 and a strike rate of 139.75 playing for them.

He has captained 6 IPL finals and it goes without saying that Dhoni, The Leader is seen at his best when he plays in front of the Chepauk crowd. Not that it is even relevant in this case but he was reunited with his ‘spiritual home’ for 15 cr. It is interesting to note that MS Dhoni stepped down as captain of India in limited overs cricket on January 4, 2017, and he resumed as CSK captain on the same day, a year later.
