Stats: Mithali Raj joins Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle on a rare list

India Women continued their glorious run in the South Africa tour as they registered convincing wins in the first two matches of the 5-match T20I series. The Indian team chased down 165 in the first game in 18.5 overs by losing only three wickets and recorded a 9-wicket win during the 143-run chase in the 2nd game. Mithali Raj scored unbeaten fifties in both the matches by anchoring the chase while her partners took the charge.

All the stats and numbers created during the 2nd T20I match between India and South Africa Women:

1 – Mithali Raj became the first Woman to score fifty-plus scores in four consecutive T20I innings. She scored 62, 73 and 54* in her previous three T20I innings. During the last year’s CWC, She became the first Woman to score seven consecutive fifty-plus scores in the ODI format.


3 – Number of players in both Men’s and Women’s to hit four consecutive fifty-plus scores in the T20I format. Brendon McCullum in 2008/09 and Chris Gayle in 2012 scored four consecutive fifty-plus scores in Men’s T20Is. Colin Munro recently missed out on joining this rate list as he remained unbeaten on 49 after 50+ scores in three consecutive innings.


3 – Number of catches for Veda Krishnamurthy as a fielder in this game. These are the most by an Indian fielder in a Women’s T20I. Krishnamurthy bagged three catches in the 2016 T20I against Sri Lanka while Priyanka Roy also took three catches in the 2009 T20I against Pakistan.


6 – Number of consecutive T20I wins for India Women. These are the joint most consecutive T20I wins for them along with six T20Is they won in a succession in 2012/13.


76* – Mithali Raj’s unbeaten 76 in this game is her highest score in T20I cricket also the 2nd highest individual score by any player for Indian Women in this format. Harmanpreet Kaur made 77 against Bangladesh in the 2014 WT20 match. Mithali’s 76 is also the highest in a chase for India in Women’s T20Is surpassing Rumeli Dhar’s unbeaten 66 against England in 2006.


106India’s 106-run opening stand in this match is their 4th century stand in Women’s T20I cricket. All the four 100-run partnerships were recorded for the opening wicket of which the last three includes Mithali Raj.


143 – India Women’s 143-run chase in this game is their 2nd biggest successful chase in the T20I format. Their biggest run-chase came in the first T20I where they chased down 165. Prior to his series, their highest successful chase was 141 against Australia in 2016.
