In the second Test of India’s tour of South Africa 2018, nothing seemed to be going the way of team India. Right from the toss, which Virat Kohli lost, the omen for the match looked grim. The South African batsmen piled up runs in the first two sessions and that questioned the team combination which the visitors had fielded. Many believed that the sight could have been different had their been no exclusion of star bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Well, the possibilities about what could have happened were endless. Things could have only gone worse had the team not bounced back in the final hour of play. India managed to restrict the strong Proteas batting to 269/6 by the end of the day’s play. The highlight of the final session was the two quick run outs inflicted by the Indian fielders. The run outs brought India right back in to the game.

With the run outs being inflicted, the Indian side registered some unique stats. They now have the most number of run outs registered in Test cricket since January 2016. The Virat Kohli-led side has affected 16 run outs since the period in contention.

Next in line is England, who have 12 run outs to their credit in the longest format of the game. India’s current opposition, South Africa, are at the fourth position with 10 run outs to their account. There are only four teams who have managed to inflict more than 10 run outs in Test cricket from January 2016 to January 13, 2018.

Here is look at the numbers:

16 – INDIA
12 – England
11 – Australia
10 – South Africa

Ever since Virat Kohli has assumed the captaincy of the Indian cricket team, the fielding standards have become a parameter to judge a player’s stake in the side. Time and again, the new look team India has stressed on the importance of fitness.

No player makes it to the top crop without clearing the yo-yo tests. It is because of these developments that the cricketers have started taking their fielding very seriously. This is being reflected in the way they are faring up on the field. Needless to concede why this Indian team has managed to escalate to the helm of Test cricket in the recent times.
