Yashasvi Jaiswal made his List A debut in the ongoing edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy and has been absolutely stupendous. He has been with the India U19 team for quite a while and hasn’t flattered to deceive by any stretch of the imagination. In his first five innings, the southpaw has amassed 504 runs at an average of 100.80 and a strike-rate in excess of 100.
The 17-year-old scored a couple of centuries versus Goa and Kerala in the first four matches to show his class and calibre. However, in the contest against Jharkhand in Bengaluru, Jaiswal went berserk to score his maiden List A double century. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Mumbai racked up a colossal score of 358 for the loss of three wickets in their 50 overs.
He along with Aditya Tare put on 200 runs for the opening wicket and it set the platform for Mumbai’s humongous total. Tare got 78 runs and Jaiswal got good support from the likes of Siddhesh Lad and captain Shreyas Iyer, who scored a 14-ball 31. Jaiswal went on to play until the 50th over where he was nipped out by Vivekanand Tiwari. Jaiswal ended with 203 off 154 balls.

In the meantime, the teenage sensation has created a record with the knock. The left-hander smacked 17 boundaries and 12 sixes. The number of over-boundaries he hit is the most by any batsman in the history of the 50-overs domestic tournament in India. In fact, this is the fourth time a batsman has hit 10 or more sixes in a contest in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20.
Earlier Vishnu Vinod of Kerala hammered 11 sixes versus Chhattisgarh in Alur. Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube mustered 10 sixes each against Kerala and Karnataka respectively. Both Dube and Samson have played for the India ‘A’ team of late and are in contention for a spot in the national side. The other names in the list are Yusuf Pathan, Siddharth Chitnis and Shreyas Iyer.
