In modern-day cricket, six hitting ability is considered a very valuable aspect for a batsman. It is not so easy to hit the ball across the boundary on the full. It requires some good timing to get the ball through. Although the power factor helps, it always doesn’t always ensure the desired result. Timing is the most crucial element batsmen bank upon to clear the boundary. Also, selecting the right ball to hit is critical.

In a one-day game, the last five overs can be game-changing. The batting team is on the prowl during these overs. The final output of the game might potentially depend on these five overs. Earlier, there weren’t any death over specialists to bowl towards the business end of the innings. But with the power game, big bats, and fielding restrictions coming in, it is of the utmost importance to contain the batting team in the last five overs.

Batsmen with most sixes during the final five overs in ODIs (Since 2013)

1) Jos Buttler: Jos Buttler is the English wicket-keeper batsman. He strikes the ball clean and long. He is known for his explosive innings and big hitting abilities. Buttler can potentially take the game away from the opposition in no time.

Jos stood second on this list before his excellent century against England today. He scored a hundred in just 83 balls when England was in deep troubles. He set the game on fire and ensured they cross the 300 mark. If not for this innings, England would definitely not have crossed 250 as they were struggling at 189/6. In the process, Buttler managed to hit three sixes in the last five overs making him number one on the list. Since 2013, he has hit 38 sixes in the last five overs.

2) AB de Villiers: It is an insult to this list had it not featured AB de Villiers in it. The veteran South African batsman is known the clear the boundary with ease. He is one of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball. He hits the balls in all corners of the park. ABD is a sure choice to make it into this list. He hit 37 sixes in the last five so far.

3) MS Dhoni: The former Indian captain is in the twilight of his career. He is not striking the ball as clean as he used to do in his early days. Yet, he is one of the most powerful hitters of the cricket ball. There is no stopping him once he manages to find the middle of the bat with all his might. Also, he is now fitter than he ever was. There is no surprise that he is number three on the list. He hit 34 sixes in the business end of the game since 2013.

4) David Miller: The powerful hitter from the rainbow nation is another obvious name on the list. He role in the Proteas side is primarily to come out and strike big. He managed to hit 24 sixes towards the end of the innings.

5) Rohit Sharma: When this man strikes the ball, all you can do is stand in awe of his shots. The triple double-centurion has had a wonderful 2017. His career changed after he started opening for India. He clobbered the ball over the ropes 22 times. Since he is an opener, he doesn’t get to bat much in the last five overs.
