Nathan Lyon produced one of the greatest performances by an Australian spinner in their 2-match Test series against Bangladesh. The off-spinner picked up 22 wickets in this series including the 13 wickets he bagged in the 2nd Test at Chittagong, where the Aussies levelled the series after losing the first Test played at Dhaka.

The 29-year-old now set a new record for most wickets in a 2-match Test series while playing outside the home. His 22 wickets overhaul Jonny Briggs and Irfan Pathan’s 21-wicket effort. Overall, he is only the 3rd bowler to take 22 or more wickets in a 2-match Test series as the Sri Lankan spinners Rangana Herath and Muttiah Muralitharan picked up 23 and 22 wickets respectively in home series.

During the 1st Test, Lyon picked up 6/82 in the 2nd innings which meant the Australian now has taken 6-wicket hauls in three consecutive Test innings. Thus, he became only the 9th player and the 2nd Australian to take 6-fers in three consecutive innings.

Australian leg-spinner Clarrie Grimmett is the only player to take 6-fers in three consecutive innings on two different occasions while Harbhajan Singh stands as the only player with 6-wicket hauls in four consecutive innings.

By taking 13 wickets in the game, Lyon became only the 2nd visiting player to take 13 wickets in a Test match in Asia after Ian Botham. His match figures of 13/154 are the 2nd best bowling figures in a Test for an Australian spinner behind Grimmett’s 14/199 against South Africa in 1932.
