An entertaining and a high-scoring 3-match T20I series between South Africa and England came to an end with the visitors taking away the series from being 0-1 down. The series began to England messing up 178-run chase from being 91/1 in the 9th over. Two players scored fifties but couldn’t stop them from a 1-run win.

The South African team were on the receiving side in Durban where they reached the 100-run mark in only 9 overs but couldn’t score 105 runs in the next 11 overs. Everything went well for England in the 3rd T20I with Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow giving them a perfect start while Eoin Morgan showing up his finishing skills when the equation started to get tough towards the end.

All the stats and records created during the high-scoring T20I series between South Africa and England:

4 – A total of four 200+ totals were recorded during this series; the first-ever bilateral T20I series to record four totals in excess of 200. The India-Sri Lanka series in 2009, New Zealand-India series in 2019 and India-West Indies series in 2019 witnessed three 200+ totals apiece.


7 – This series witnessed seven individual scores of fifty-plus runs which are the joint 3rd most in any bilateral T20I series. The recent New Zealand-India series recorded 14 scores of 50+ while the India-West Indies in December 2019 witnessed nine scores of 50+.


9 – As many as nine fifty-plus partnerships have been shared by both the teams in this series; the 2nd most in any bilateral T20I series. The Afghanistan-Ireland 3-match series hosted by India in 2017 and the recent New Zealand-India 5-match series had ten 50-run partnerships apiece.


10.12 – This series between South Africa and England had a run rate of 10.12 which is the highest-ever in any T20I series/tournament of 3 or more matches. The previous highest was 10 during the 3-match series between India and West Indies in December 2019.


65 – As many as 65 sixes were hit by the batsmen on both sides during this series; the 2nd most in a 3-match T20I series behind the 72 sixes during the India-West Indies series last December.

South Africa hit 33 maximums; the joint-most by them in any T20I series/tournament equalling the 33 sixes in the 2010 WT20. On the other hand, England hit 32 sixes which are most for them in a 3-match T20I series.


224 – Partnership runs between Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock in this 3-match series; the 7th most runs by any pair in a bilateral T20I series. The duo’s 224 runs are also the 2nd most for South Africa in a bilateral series between Graeme Smith and Loots Bosman pair’s 267 runs across two opening stands in the 2009 home series also against England.


600+ – England and South Africa scored a total of 606 and 601 runs respectively in this series. Only two teams have amassed 600+ runs in a 3-match T20I series – 624 by Afghanistan in 2017 against Ireland and 619 runs by India against West Indies in 2019.


1207 – A total of1207 runs were aggregated by both the teams in this series; the most during a 3-match series in the T20I format. It surpassed the 1172 runs scored during the recent series between India and West Indies.
