Stats: Parthiv Patel completes 10000 runs in first-class cricket

Parthiv Patel joined the elite list of players who have scored 10000 runs in the first-class cricket during the ongoing Duleep Trophy game between India Red and India Green. Parthiv, the India Green captain and also their wicketkeeper, walked out in his team’s first innings with 9995 runs in his FC tally. With a boundary off Krishnappa Gowtham when batting on three runs, Parthiv completed the 10k-run milestone.

Thus, he became only the 48th Indian player to complete 10000 runs in first-class cricket which he did at the newly built Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The left-hander completed the milestone in his 252nd innings in first-class with 23 Indian players taking more than 252 innings for completing the 10000 FC runs.

The 32-year-old had to wait nearly eight months to join the elite list and he stepped into the Irani Trophy game 48 runs away from 10000-run milestone but scored only 11 and 32 runs respectively. The Gujarat captain was adjudged out incorrectly in the 2nd innings and didn’t get a chance to feature in a first-class game after that game in 2016/17. Parthiv wasn’t picked in the Indian Test team either after that with Wriddhiman Saha returning after injury, whose unavailability brought Parthiv back into the Test side after eight years during the England Test series.

The 2016/17 season was only the 2nd first-class season in which Parthiv aggregated 1000 runs. In the 2007/08 season, Parthiv amassed 1584 runs which included six centuries, off which five were in consecutive innings. He is one of the eight players and the only Indian with five consecutive hundreds in first-class cricket.

Though there are a couple of players alongside Parthiv who played for Gujarat on this 10000 runs list, none of them was with the team for more than a couple of years. Whereas the 32-year-old has been part of the Gujarat side ever since his debut in 2004 and has aggregated over 6000 runs for them in this format.
