England’s Test captain and by far their most reliable Test cricketer in recent past Joe Root has huge expectations on his shoulders. Despite some of his exciting batting exploits he also finds himself in line for a rather unwanted one. He is counted among the Fab 5 of the modern era. But Root finds himself in the list of batsmen with low conversion rates of fifties into hundreds.

He acquires the 7th spot in the list with Pakistani legend Misbah-ul-Haq leading the chart. The list even features many greats the likes of VVS Laxman, GR Vishwanath, former Englishmen Michael Atherton and Alec Stewart.

Joe has been one of the most consistent batsmen over the years, averaging over 50 in the game’s longest format helps him pave his way into the quartet of young captains in world cricket at present alongside Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson.

Though the English captain has scored tons of runs, to be precise 5389 runs in 61 Tests but has found it extremely difficult to convert his fifties into complete tons. He has scored 33 half centuries but the number of hundreds is as low as 13. An orthodox technically sound player who has the temperament to play long innings on any surface irrespective of the toughness of the conditions and the strength of the opposition attack.

He has been the backbone of the English batting line up, the inexperienced middle order looks up to the skipper to anchor the innings with others batting around him.

Root is currently in Australia playing the Ashes series, for the first time as the captain. In his most recent knock against the Aussies in the Gabba Test he scored 51 in the second innings to further extend his run in this particular list.

Here is the list of players with the worst conversion rates:
