Ravindra Jadeja is well known to have an impact with the ball irrespective of the conditions he bowls in but has always been restricted to be the second spinner of the Test team. As a result, the left-arm spinner was permitted to the bench whenever India turned up in the overseas tours with only Ravichandran Ashwin as the only spinner in the playing XI. Jadeja finally made it to the XI on the England tour as Ashwin wasn’t fit enough to play in the final Test match at The Oval.

On a track where the ball kept moving around even after getting old, Jadeja produced a support act to the pacers with a 4-wicket haul. The 29-year-old kept things tight against England batsmen and the specialty about his effort was he didn’t even bowl one maiden throughout the innings. During his 30 overs, Jadeja gave away only 79 runs to take four wickets. Jadeja is the first Indian spinner and overall the 3rd bowler to bowl 30 and more overs in a Test innings without bowling a maiden.

West Indies’ Frank Worrell conceded 93 runs during his 30 8-ball overs in the 1960 Brisbane Test against the Aussies.

The 79 runs Jadeja conceded during England’s innings are the 2nd fewest any bowler conceded after bowling more than 25 maiden-less overs in a Test inning. Pakistan‘s Mohammad Abbas gave away only 75 runs during his 26.5 overs in the Abu Dhabi Test against Sri Lanka last year. During that innings, Abbas had an economy rate of 2.79 which was the previous best in 25 and more 6-ball overs without a maiden.
