Stats: Shakib Al Hasan bags rare records against Australia

The No.1 ranked all-rounder across all three formats of the game Shakib Al Hasan has once again proved his top spot in the rankings as his all-round performance in the first Test against Australia helped Bangladesh to take the first innings lead. The left-hander scored 84 walking out to bat at 10/3 to take his side to a respectable total of 260. Shakib starred with the ball on the 2nd day bagging five wickets to hand the hosts a 43-run lead.

He is playing his 50th Test match which is also his maiden Test against the Aussies. With the help of this five-wicket haul, the Bangladesh star became only the 4th player to take a 5-wicket haul against nine oppositions in this format. Among the four players, Shakib is the only player to achieve this set in first 50 Test matches of his career.

This Test is the 8th occasion where Shakib has scored a fifty-plus and picked up a 5-wicket haul both in the same game. Only Ian Botham has done the double more often than Shakib as the former England all-rounder took a 5-wicket haul and recorded a 50+ score in the same Test on 11 occasions.

The 30-year-old has done the 50+ and 5-fer double in eight of the 50 Tests he played so far which is 16.25 percentage of matches of his career. Among the 18 players who have done the double on three different occasions, no player has been able to do it as often as Shakib.

India’s Ravindra Jadeja comes close to Shakib having achieved it four times in his 32-match career. Overall, Shakib has also scored a fifty-plus score and taken three wickets in an innings in 15 Test matches out of the 50 Tests he played.
