Virat Kohli has been around milestones and records for a while and his recent form boosted his success across all formats putting him at the top of every list. The Indian skipper has been quite specific at playing series recently to manage workload. As a result, Kohli missed facing some weaker opponents but it hardly mattered to his performances. The 29-year-old kept scoring runs irrespective of the format in any given condition and against every opposition.

He began the ongoing five-match ODI series with a 140-run knock that changed the course of the game during a big run-chase that fetched him the Man of the Match award for the umpteenth time of his career. After winning the toss for the second consecutive time, Kohli elected to bat first at his happy hunting ground in Visakhapatnam. India lost the wickets of their openers early on but he carried on with Ambati Rayudu to stitch a century partnership.

When Virat Kohli reached 30 with a boundary, he completed 4000 ODI runs in India. Thus, he became only the 3rd Indian to complete 4000 ODI runs at home. Overall, the Indian skipper is the 11th player with over 4000 ODI runs in a specific country. Kohli needed only 78 runs to reach this milestone to become the fastest to 4000 ODI runs in a country. In this process, Kohli broke AB de Villiers’ record as the South African needed 91 innings to complete 4000 ODI runs at home.

De Villiers went past Sachin Tendulkar last year to become the fastest to 4000 ODI runs in the rainbow nation. The Master Blaster needed 92 innings to score as many runs at home, one more than what ABD took. MS Dhoni is the other Indian in this list having scored 4390 runs thus far. The former Indian skipper completed the milestone in 100 innings to stand 4th on the charts. Australia’s Allan Border is the slowest to the milestone taking 162 innings while Mahela Jayawardene took 132 innings.
