Malaysia-born Australian spinner Steve O’Keefe didn’t enjoy much support from outside the team as he set his eyes on the maiden tour to India. Just under 2 days of play and ‘Sock’ has achieved a feat which many dream down under.

O’Keefe was the chief architect in India’s sudden collapse, which saw them get folded for mere 105 runs under 41 overs. The spinner finished with figures of 6/35, picking his six wickets for just five runs and over 25 balls. He was criticized by legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne, the moment his name was included in the side. He was termed as a ‘safe option’ by Warne, since he is known for bowling stumps to stumps without sharp spin.

He told Star Sports: “When you first start a session you want to set the tone and put pressure on the Indian batsmen and, without trying to be too harsh on Steve O’Keefe, this is the weakest of the Australian bowlers.”

Clearly, O’Keffe proved Warne wrong and shot a side down which has a reputation of playing spin well. A Twitter banter started in no time between Warne and former England captain Michael Vaughan. Warne congratulated the spinner for his stupendous feat and also poked fun at Vaughan for not tweeting on the game. Vaughan quickly reminded Warne of his critical analysis of the spinner in the past that came back haunting him.

Warne hit back at the former English cricketer, saying he must be a bit jealous considering Alastair Cook and his men got drubbed during England’s tour of India recently. Vaughan decided not add more volleys and played it smart and safe by pleading to the Australian cricket board to hire Warne as a selector, as that would be the only way a struggling England side could retain the Ashes this winter.
