The BCCI has been overhauled over the past four of five years. The way it functions now is different to the way it used to function before. It is now extremely cautious in its tracks and leaves no stone unturned when it comes to the matters that could spoil its reputation.

Lalit Modi, the brain behind the Indian Premier League and the architect of the most successful T20 League in the world was banished from the BCCI in 2013 and is not allowed to be a part of any cricketing organisation in India which is affiliated to the BCCI. However, even after such banishment and his ban being known to the world, he was elected as the Chief of the Rajasthan Cricket Association.

The moment he took the chair in Rajasthan, BCCI banned the state organisation from taking any part in the BCCI events. Therefore, Rajasthan team has not been a part of the domestic circuit for the past 4 years that is since 2013.

BCCI stands firm

BCCI is standing firm and will not lift the ban until a certain Lalit Modi does not step down from his post. They are extremely critical of it and state that Modi should not hold any of the positions in the house and the moment that happens RCA will be back in the BCCI’s plans.

“Our notice, which we had sent to RCA in 2013 was clear that Modi can’t hold any position anywhere in the association or any of its districts. He (Modi) is still president of Nagaur until he is removed from Nagaur district, BCCI will not lift the ban from RCA,” one of the officials told the Indian Express.

Congressman to RCA’s aid?

Congressman Joshi recently won an election against Lalit Modi’s son Ruchir. He won the votes of 19 districts out of 33. The Congressman is keen on lifting the ban and has asked BCCI for directions. He has been vocal about it and is working hard for the same.

Right after the election, Joshi stated that his first priority is to help RCA get out of banishment. “I will have to look into every aspect of this suspension but this would be my first priority. But for this I need support from all quarters including the state government,” Joshi told the reporters.

“We have written a letter to BCCI seeking direction on how RCA’s ban can be lifted. If his (Modi) case is an issue, we will take this matter to our AGM and then the house will decide over it. Let us get the clarity from the BCCI and we will later decide what needs to be done,” he further said.

It will be interesting to see how the BCCI responds to the new rescuer of RCA. Until then everyone in Rajasthan has to play the waiting game.
